Project Description:
The Blue Mountain Biogas project is a small power production facility utilizing methane gas produced from swine manure. Manure from the swine farms is pumped to centrally located digesters. The digesters are heated and the manure is mixed to maximize biogas production. The biogas is then collected, scrubbed and used as fuel for reciprocating engines to produce electricity. The facility will utilize two Caterpillar 3520 reciprocating engines, each with a nameplate capacity of 1.6 megawatts. Waste heat from the engines will be captured to heat the digesters to approximately 98 degrees F. The collected biogas can also be diverted to a flare or used as fuel for a stand-by boiler to produce supplemental process heat.
